Got a call from a Sherry Owens. Gave me a reference number on an account and said I was facing legal action unless I agreed to pay a settlement of $800.00. If not, I was going to be subpoenad by the county I live in. She said she represents James Howard, who is overseeing my case. Same as other people have commented as well-he leaves a voicemail with a number to call...this was the lady I got when I called. They told me I had an unpaid payday loan. I DID have payday loans years ago, but all were paid off. They said they were representing loan.com who had sent me a check in 2011? Not true. Anyway, I now have 24 hours to "settle" with them=get scammed out of $800. I am pretty sure it's a scam and that they are simply using my information that they bought from another payday loan company. The sad thing is that they can be scary because they do have a lot of information-where I work, car I drive, social security #, etc. They are, in my mind, simply trying to panic me and many,
888-493-0083 It's a scam. They pretend to have a civil suit to serve on you and want to know if you're going to be home to sign some paperwork. I hung up rather quickly and do not know what kind of scam it is.
This call was received at my home today requesting that my ex-husband, Henry, from whom I have been divorced since 2000, return Ms Brooks' phone call prior to tomorrow, Friday, 11 October 2013. I am not calling her to inform her that, not only have I not seen my ex-husband in over ten years; but, that she should not call here looking for him. I am reporting the matter here; and, if necessary will (if further bothered) forward the problem to my Consumer Advocacy in this state. If the matter was legitimately that important, whomever would have the correct information; even in these days of unlisted cell phones. This phone has been in service and listed with this number for 20 years or more; and, never has it been my ex-husband's contact phone number as this was my mother's home, and he never lived here. Honestly, I will just pray for the time being.
